Raw materials - far-reaching resources for metal packaging
Raw iron and aluminium are the third and fourth most common elements in the Earth's
crust after oxygen and silicon.
Recycling significantly reduces the consumption of raw materials and thus energy and
leads to sustainable improvement of the environmental compatibility of metal packaging.
Recycling - closed recycling loop without loss of quality
- Metal packaging is recycled in a genuine material cycle
- In Europe
- more than 65 % of all steel packaging and
- around 50 % of all aluminium packaging are recycled
- Metal packaging has the highest recycling rate of all packaging types in Europe
- Steel and aluminium can be recycled any number of times without losing its original material properties
- Steel and aluminium are therefore actually 'reusable' materials
Collected metal promotes the production cycle - it is not waste.
